An Introduction
Though no concept defining the direction with which we were to head was proposed initially, the vision become clearer with time. To counteract the deterioration of the environment, the goal of developing Singapore into a Garden City was set, so that (wthout hindering the process of urbanisation and industrialisation) a high-quality living environment could still be sustained. A more elaborate concept- A City within the Garden and The Singapore Green Plan, was drawn up subsequently.
Being a small island state, it is possible to develop Singapore into a garden filled with greenery, flowers, and fruits, within which the city is located. All parks and gardens would be made accessible to the whole population through park connectors. With the goals determined, work was set to begin.
