Emphasis on Fruit Trees
Planting of fruit trees in Singapore as part of the greening programme aims to achieve two main objectives, apart from adding greenery to the landscape. The first is from an educational point of view where the younger generation will have more opportunity to see the plants from which different fruits are obtained. Common fruit trees planted within housing estates can thus enable children to observe the development of the trees and fruits in proximity.
The second objective is one with a long-term view, that is, to inculcate social discipline in the communities.
