Description: Has small greenish-cream flowers that develop to produce seedlings with pointed root-rudiments up to 60cm long. When these fall, they either float away or stick in the mud and start to grow.

Description: The stiff leaves of this plant come from the thick rhizome

 

Spathodea campanulata (Bignoniaceae)

Nature: Wayside Tree

Commonly known as: African Tulip Tree; Khae sad (Thai); Sepatu diat (Malay, Indonesian)

Origin: Uganda

Description: The main attraction of the plant is its large flowers, which occurs in clusters. The flowers are followed by long, boat-shaped pods, which eventually split open to release winged seeds dispersed by wind.

 

Wrightia religiosa (Apocynaceae)

Nature: Flowering Treelet

Commonly known as: Wild water plum; Sui-mei (Chinese)

Origin: Thailand, West Malaysia

Description: An elegant shrub, up to 2m tall, with a flat top and rather horizontal or slightly drooping branches, it is easily propagated from cuttings. Regarded as an "old-fashioned" plant, it makes an ideal bonsai.
